Reintroducing Café Clarkston: A Hub for Refugees and Immigrants

The Career Hub, affectionately known as Café Clarkston, has been a cornerstone for refugees and immigrants in Clarkston. This invaluable space has offered resume workshops, computer assistance, and career placements. More than just a resource center, the Career Hub fostered a community where individuals supported each other. Unfortunately, in 2019, the Career Hub had to shut its doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving the community without a crucial support network.

Rescuing the Hub

The Tekton Career Training Center, a non-profit organization in Clarkston dedicated to providing trade training for refugees and immigrants, understands this gap all too well. Daily, Tekton receives dozens of inquiries about job opportunities and ESOL classes. Despite the wealth of resources in Clarkston, it is challenging to direct individuals effectively due to the sheer volume of available services. The Career Hub was the ideal solution to this problem.

Relaunching

For the past four years, Tekton, along with Refcode—a Tekton program aimed at connecting refugees and immigrants to the tech community—has been planning to revive the Career Hub. With a well-known space in the refugee community, strong community support, and essential resources, the time is ripe for a relaunch.

As we work towards reopening the Career Hub, we recognize the importance of community collaboration. We are seeking support from local organizations, knowing that we cannot achieve this alone. Therefore, we are hosting an informational session at Tekton to gather feedback and valuable input from community organizations.

Join Us

We invite all community organizations to join us for this crucial informational session. Your feedback and insights are invaluable as we work together to relaunch the Career Hub and restore this vital resource to our community.
